Information About Express Routing

July 24, 2006

Dear Parents:

Beginning in the 2006-2007 school year, all magnet students eligible for transportation will be picked up and dropped off at their elementary school of residence. This level of service is known as "Express Routing."

Several outcomes should result from this implementation:

" A reduction in the number of buses needed to service the same number of students, resulting in improved on-time performance
" A reduction in the overall length of trips (i.e., shorter ride time)
" Standardization of pick-up and drop-off locations, which simplifies the assignment of new students and shortens scheduling timelines
" An improved/centralized service location for students
" Elimination of low-ridership routes is less likely with a higher concentration of riders per bus

This type of transportation scheduling is currently in use and has been well received at some of the district's larger magnet schools. Should you have any questions, please contact your school's transportation liaison.

Thank you,
